training with mike burkel

Now is the perfect age to create a foundation that will last a life-time and which all future training can be built upon. The training skills we teach are the basic fundamentals every puppy should know. Each program is custom tailored to suit each dog and family’s needs. All dog training is conducted either at our Phoenix, Arizona location or Sarona, Wisconsin location. Once the training is complete, the trainer will deliver your puppy to your home. We will demonstrate and teach you how to utilize each command and behavior. We will show you how your puppy will continue to learn as you develop your relationship with your new family member. We will provide you with videos showing your puppy executing each command and behavior.

Each human-canine relationship is different, and we specialize in providing individualized training to ensure the best results for each family.

Training Programs

Foundations and Obedience Phase One

30 Days in Length - Minimum Age 8 Weeks

COST - $2,500

Part one of Foundations and Obedience training can begin when your puppy is eight weeks or older. This phase of instruction sets the puppy up for success in every area of their lives.

We will introduce the puppy to a reward system using food markers to reinforce the correct behavior. Once the correct behavior has been developed, we assign a command to this behavior. We begin training in a distraction free environment.

During Phase One your puppy will:

Be introduced to house-training within our homes

Be taught to respond properly to a leash and collar

Be taught using food reward/markers

Learn name association

Fully execute the Sit and Down commands

Begin to learn the Stay position

Learn “yes” and “no” commands

Have an introduction to Heeling

Follow handler on leash

Be crate trained

Be place trained

Learn vehicle familiarization and etiquette

Learn to accept regular grooming, bathing, nail trimming, and ear cleaning

Be introduced to new and different environments

Foundations and Obedience Phase Two

Additional 30 days; 60 days total

COST - $4,000 (Phases 1 & 2 combined)

Our level two is where the rubber meets road for your puppy. Food rewards transition to play objects, such as tugs or balls, to build drive. Once your puppy has learned appropriate behaviors, we give him or her an opportunity to demonstrate-or “prove”-the training. If he/she makes the wrong choice-doesn’t respond with the proper behavior-we continue training until the behavior is demonstrated and this is rewarded. During this phase your puppy is taught how to extend their “Sit” & “Down” which ultimately becomes their “Stay.”
They also learn how to greet people respectfully-no jumping.

Foundations and Obedience Phase Three

Additional 30 days; 90 days total

COST - $5,500 (Phases 1, 2 & 3 combined)

Once your puppy develops “drive,” we can take their training to the next level. We help them begin to transition from a puppy into a confident and capable young adult. We do this by training them in the urban environment- amongst people, traffic, and city noises.

Once they have a solid foundation in the home, they need to learn how to perform anywhere and everywhere you may take them. Any dog can do well in a place that they are familiar with on a day-to-day basis, because they know what to expect. When you bring them to an unfamiliar place, the puppy no longer has that sense of security and must learn to adapt. At this point, we teach them that they should always follow commands regardless of their changing environment. This is called proofing. We practice this with them under all types of distractions: traffic, crowds, loud noises, other dogs etc.

Teaching puppies foundational behaviors and obedience is our passion. We know it is the key to creating a lifetime bond between the dog and his/her family.
